In 1983 the A. A. Society, Inc. purchased a place of worship for the Iraqi
Jewish community. The community stressed that Jewish learning, education
and religious observance are the pillars required to support a renaissance
of a Babylonian Jewish culture in the United States. As a result, a
synagogue was purchased in Queens, and a religious organization was
established in 1984 under the name of Congregation Bene Naharayim. The
synagogue was enlarged and inaugurated in 1986. Since then, the
congregation has been active all year long. The services are being
conducted according to the Babylonian Jewish "minhag" (practice).
